Department of Economics

The Department of Economics was established in 1995 and master’s degree class started enrolling in July. Later in 1997, undergraduate degree program was launched. Currently, there are two master’s classes – first year and second year. Both classes have a total of 15 students. For undergraduate classes, there are 275 students in total. Regarding academic staff of Department of Economics, there are 11 staff members of whom are graduated from Ph. D degree in Economics related fields, with 4 professors and 7 associate professors.

【The unique features of Department of Economics】

The Department of Economics focuses on the concept of providing rigorous theoretical basis and new knowledge of contemporary economy to cultivate students with the ability to think independently, the ability to analyze economic problems and the ability to communicate in foreign languages. Also, through solid integration of economic theory and empirical study allowing students to learn the ability to analyze big data. In addition, the Department of Economics follows NCNU’s objective and focus on the economic development of South-east Asia countries and therefore related courses will be provided to cultivate students with international perspectives and increase their competitiveness in the marketplace of South-east Asia countries.

【Characteristics of the program】
This course specializes in three fields areas, respectively financial economics (employment will be taken place in financial institutions), economic policy analysis (employment will be taken place in local authorities and corporations), and economic theory research ( employment will be taken place in research institutions or pursue further study). This course emphasizes in cultivating students with three main capabilities. They are as follow:
The ability to analyze: integrate knowledge, skills and attitude value to syllabus, cooperate with national economic development and local industrial characteristics, strengthen the connection between economy, theory and policy planning.
Employability: Provide career development courses, encourage students to obtain professional certificate, arrange corporate visits and corporate internship courses.
International mobility:Our department coordinate with the College of Management to promote international events. We plan to work with overseas universities to offer dual degree program as well as establishing a good relationship with foreign universities for future collaboration.
