Due to a lack of professionals in the emerging industries, National Chi Nan University integrated teaching resources and opinions of 60 academic staff (from department of international business, economics, information management, finance and tourism, leisure and hospitality management) in the College of Management and introduced a Ph. D program in Strategy and Development of Emerging Industries in 2013. In 2014, the Ph. D in International Business was incorporated into this program and 2016 saw the introduction of a new subject, namely tourism innovation group, also merged into this program. Currently, this program enrolls 13 Ph. D students every year with three specialization, (1) International business group– 4 students, (2) Industrial strategy group – 4 students, (3) Tourism innovation group – 5 students. There have been a little more than 70 students so far of whom are all from different industries. In order to meet the demand of professionals in the emerging industries, a master program in strategy and development of emerging industries was introduced in 2017. Both programs have its self-positioning as to cultivate students with a macro view and have a deeper understanding in theoretical basis in that when students graduate, they have the necessary conditions to become one of the talents in higher management level of corporations

【The unique features of the program】
In response to the changes of global industry, the strategy and development in various emerging industries and the new southbound policy promoted by the government are the key directions of this course. To educate and cultivate students with unique strategic view and to capture opportunities in the emerging industries and integrate traditional and technological industry resources to assist enterprises to upgrade and transform and become a future corporate leader.
【Characteristics of the program】
This program integrates academic staff from different departments and form a cross-disciplinary teaching team where this team has a diversified expertise, full of academic energy, qualify to teach and utilize their teaching experience to create a new way of teaching method. The design of this program was based on the emerging industries 4.0 in Taiwan, cross-border e-commerce, finance 3.0, big data and other related trends as the core direction to create a teaching environment with “student centered and problem oriented”. Also, by introducing the spirit of Standford University's 2025 innovative teaching plan where three- stage course are arranged with (1) calibrate, (2) elevate, (3) activate, to assist students to apply their own experience and knowledge to solve problems in emerging industries.
